How Is Iron Deficiency Diagnosed?

If iron deficiency is suspected, a healthcare professional will usually perform a blood test. The most important markers include serum ferritin, hemoglobin, and a complete blood count (CBC). Ferritin reflects the body's iron stores and helps determine whether iron reserves are depleted. A diagnosis of iron deficiency is based on both laboratory results and symptoms, allowing an appropriate treatment or supplementation plan to be developed.
