Which sports are most likely to cause muscle soreness?

Muscle soreness is particularly common after sports or activities that involve new movement patterns or place a high eccentric load on the muscles. Examples include strength training, running (especially downhill running), team sports with frequent changes of direction, intensive full-body workouts, and new exercise routines. Overtraining or exercising beyond your current fitness level can also increase the likelihood of developing muscle soreness.
